Spectrum and Bury St. Edmunds gymnastic clubs amalgamated in December 1995 to form Bury Spectrum Gymnastics Club.
From humble beginnings in a local school hall, the club has progressed steadily and now occupies over 7,5000 sq. ft. of floor space in a fully equipped unit in Western Way, Bury St. Edmunds.
The clubs superb equipment and facilities are now available full time and currently app. 330 gymnasts are in training . These range from pre-school to adult with the majority of the clubs members being under 15.
In these times when high priority is being placed on fitness in children, the clubs aim is to provide facilities, fun and enjoyment for all children in the Bury area.
The club now caters for a number of gymnastic disciplines which include both Girls and Boys artistic ( Olympic) gymnastics, Sports Acrobatics, Recreational Gymnastics, Pre-school and Mother and Toddler groups. Many of our members also regularly practice for the many displays that the club stages at various different local events.
For those children who show talent which can be further developed, the clubs coaching staff are able to bring this talent out. Currently we have numerous qualified coaches at all levels: Assistant club coach, Club coach, Advanced club coach and High Performance coach as well as a number of trainee coaches. A number of our younger coaches are themselves, former competitive gymnasts who have achieved much success regionally, one having reached international level and represented England and Great Britain on numerous occasions. The personal experience of these young coaches is invaluable to their pupils and in the short existence of the club , many members have achieved places in County, Regional and National Squads. Competitively, our members have won hundreds of medals at all levels and we have had numerous County, Regional and National champions. Our coaches are also backed up by the knowledge of the clubs qualified Judges , one International, three National, two Regional and several Club Judges.
To achieve these standards both coaches and gymnasts need great dedication and top class facilities and equipment.
Fitness and Fun as well as more serious gymnastics are all just as important to the success of a thriving Gymnastics Club and Bury Spectrum is and intends to remain a centre of excellence catering for everyone.
