Bury Spectrum Gymnastics clubs members have now completed the Regional Grades section of the season with a number of creditable performances.
In the Eastern Region Compulsory Grade 3 competition, Alice Codling passed with distinction with a score of 58.525. This score qualifies her to compete in the National finals which will take place shortly in Birmingham. This will be a hotly contested event with this years Eastern Region level 3 gymnasts being probably the best year group in depth that there has ever been. In the level 5 compulsory grade, the clubs three representatives all passed with excellent scores. Jasmine Tebbit scored 60.40, Georgia Castle 58.50 and Elena Saiu-Bell 57.20. These gymnasts are too young to progress to Nationals until grade 4 next year.
The Regional Club Grades finals saw Ellen Parrett competing in Grade 6 for 8 year olds, and finishing with a superb score of 62.900 which gave her the Bronze medal position from a field of 35. Sophie Brandon finished in the middle of the field with a score of 58.150. Catherine Rooke competed in the 9 - 11 age group of Club Grade 5 and scored 59.300 for ninth place.
The Boys had their turn in the Regional setwork qualifiers Elite and N.D.P. Grades.
Matthew Post took a Silver medal in the U-11 Elite Grade.Gabriel Hannah also took Silver in the Intermediate 2 NDP grade with a score of 57.25.Henry Lord was sixth in NDP Primary 1 with 58.60. James Cook finished in mid table in the NDP Primary 4 event.
A number of the boys will go on to the National Finals shortly representing the Region.
Two Bury Spectrum Gymnastics Club members took part in the Eastern Region British Schools Championships held in Ipswich. Both girls performed very well and were almost inseparable at the end of the competition finishing just five hundredths of a mark apart. That was enough to clinch the Bronze medal for Victoria Abery who scored 40.50 with Siobhan Fitzsimons in fourth place with 40.45. Those scores also meant that both girls would travel to Newcastle to represent the Eastern Region in the five girl team event as well as competing as individuals in the British Schools National Championships.
The girls have now competed in that final both producing excellent performances to make them the top scorers in the Eastern Team. Victoria improved on her score in the Regional event scoring 42,85 for twentieth place in Great Britain. Siobahn maintained her form with a score of 40.35 for twenty sixth place overall in the Country.
Suffolk County Gymnastics Association Club Grades 5 & 6 took place in Ipswich, with the reward for those achieving passes with Distinction being a place in the Eastern counties Regional finals. Three girls from Bury Spectrum were entered, all of whom achieved excellent passes with distinction and the desired place in the Regional finals. Catherine Rooke was third in the grade 5, 9-11 age group with 59.850 which earned her a Bronze medal. Ellen Parrett competed in the 8 year old section of Grade 6, just missing out on a medal in fourth spot with 60.900. Sophie Brandon was close behind in seventh place with a score of 59.650.
Twenty six other girls from the club took their Suffolk County Grades which do not go on to any finals. These grades produce certificates for those who pass and progression to the next Grade up in next seasons event. All Twenty Six passed with excellent performances and proudly received their Certificates at the end of a long day. Grade 1:- Evie Nicholas, Isobella O'Brien Miller, Meg Bartholomew, Sasha Campbell, Jessica Gottgens, Sorcha McCooey, Elizabeth Shelmerdine, Elspeth Harrison,Georgina Seymour.
Grade 2:- Alice Batchelor, Gabriella Jones.
Grade 3:- Phoebe Howe, Abbie Jordan, Kate Robertson, Alex Jury, Daisy Beck-Roberts.
Grade 4:- Ruth Newton, Mei Carrick, Isabel Bos, Lauren hancock, Bethany Mottram.
Grade 5:- Victoria Slater, Harper Bush, Rowen Grey, Zoe Parsons, Daniella Kendall.
